What's my why?

When I was going through my diagnosis at 33, everything that I read was about little boys with ADHD. I couldn't find anything that was about women going through late diagnosis or even about women with ADHD and how that impacts us differently. I found little bits and pieces here, there, and everywhere, and women were slowly starting to talk about it on podcasts and social media. But there wasn't a one-stop shop that was about women and girls.

It was so frustrating trying to read and learn from the information that was predominantly about kids with ADHD, specifically little boys with ADHD. You don't grow out of it; it doesn't just up and leave one day, so why the hell is everything so outdated? And then it hit me.... just do it yourself. So I did. I started an Instagram account that got fast organic traction and was mostly focused on budgeting. Then, the dopamine beast wanted more. I wanted to create a space where there was a lot of information about how it impacts WOMEN and curate a hub of all the information, resources and tools that I found along the way in the hope that it will make it easier for the next woman who spent her whole life struggling. Or insight for the Mum's out there that are asking if their kid is just an 'arsehole' before asking if there is a reason why.

I can't tell you how sick of hearing that I am. I want parents and teachers to learn from the adults who have grown up believing all the negative things they have been told about themselves from a young age and realise their words leave scars. No one wakes up and wants to do bad at school or work, and no one wants to be an 'arsehole'. Maybe their brain works a little differently.

Throughout my journey, I have learned a hell of a lot. Also, I've worked in different roles in my career that came in far more useful once I understood my brain, like personal budgeting in the finance industry. I want to pass that learning on to women who wish to learn, grow, and prove themselves and those who say, 'You just need to try harder. ' That they can do ANYTHING they set their minds to. That mindset is one of the most powerful things ADHD gives us. Know that YOU GOT THIS!

As a bonus, many years ago, I was blessed enough to start my professional journey as a chef. Knowing that ADHD has such a profound impact on disordered eating habits, especially in women, I wanted to put together some simple recipes that make it easier to eat when you feel you can get out of hyperfocus. Whilst nourishing the ADHD brain, to get the best from it.

I hope this site brings new knowledge, techniques, and even some giggles to you or to anyone who has a loved one with ADHD.

Stay Awesome,

Sez xo
